Glory’s work experience

Glory has been with Climb for a Child since 2012. She is the daughter of our guide. Her parents could not afford to put her in great school or give her the life experiences she so richly deserved. Climb for a Child fixed that.

She is now enrolled in NuMed in Malaysia as a bio-medical student. One of three students accepted from the entire African content.

See what she says about her work experience.

I have done work experience in two different fields

Environmental Work Doing DNA Analysis

The first field that I have done work experience is the science field at ICRAF centre. ICRAF is the world agroforest international institute in Nairobi. It specializes in management, protection and regulation of tropical rainforests and natural reserves. It was a one week work experience. During the week I was able to work in two different laboratories. The molecular lab where I learnt and practiced DNA extraction with a well skilled gene technology engineer. And the research lab about seeds. Here I practiced seedlings analysis as well as how loading of seeds was done. Through this work experience I was to know how working as a lab technician or researcher or scientist was. And now I am an aspiring medical scientist.

Small Business Management

The other field that I have worked at is the business field. I have worked at my mom’s work shop every holiday for over two years now. In this field I have learnt a lot about how taxes and VAT work, Issuing of receipts and invoices as well as keeping cash records. Through the business field I have gained a lot of life skills  including budgeting and money planning.
