Finding My Passion – Helping Others

Isn't it funny how I've spent the last few years trying to figure out what I'm passionate about? I've been telling myself for a long time that I don't have a passion, but all I've been doing is ignoring it.

“The things you are passionate about are not random, they are your calling.”

My calling

Isn’t it funny how I’ve spent the last few years trying to figure out what I’m passionate about? I’ve looked it up on the internet, watched YouTube videos, listened to podcasts, and even watched TED talks, but nothing has helped. I’ve been telling myself for a long time that I don’t have a passion, but all I’ve been doing is ignoring it.

Most of the platforms I follow on social media are dedicated to charitable causes and powerful women who have made significant contributions to their communities. I recently took part in a 30-days challenge hosted by Female And More organization, which was primarily about empowering women and finding ways to help our communities.

Furthermore, most of my high school’s extracurricular activities did not interest me, and I honestly joined the majority of them because I needed something to do, but Thursdays were different. I was looking forward to this because I liked going to Caanan’s children’s centre to help with their homework and other chores we could get our hands on, and I liked going to Saturday school to teach the local children English and the importance of environmental conservation. I also had a great time organizing the Christmas community party.

When COVID-19 was at its peak in Tanzania last year, it was around April. I joined a friend’s organisation where we raised money to buy masks and hand washing soaps and distribute them to the less fortunate in our society because everyone was concerned about staying safe. I enjoyed the fact that I was out there offering assistance. In addition, I was able to participate in a UNICEF online campaign that involved developing initiatives to assist children during that difficult time.

My friends approach me for advice because they believe I provide honest advice, but the truth is that I am not perfect and do not provide honest advice. I simply enjoy the feeling of being able to assist others because it is my calling.
